On January 14, the Center for the National Interest hosted a round table discussion of Turkey’s critical role in a changing Middle East and its complicated relations with the United States, Europe, and Russia. The event was attended by a diverse group of experts with deep experience in academia and government. Henri Barkey, Director of the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Middle East Program, offered introductory remarks to begin the discussion. This meeting was the first in a series of meetings planned by Regional Security Program Senior Director Geoffrey Kemp and Middle East Studies Director Andrew J. Bowen to focus on strategic realignment in the Middle East and North Africa region.
