2016 Distinguished Service Award Dinner Honoring Senators Tim Kaine and Pat Roberts

The Center for the National Interest honored Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Pat Roberts (R-KS) with its 2016 Distinguished Service Awards on May 23 in Washington, DC. Center President Dimitri Simes delivered the evening’s opening remarks. Center Vice Chairman Dov Zakheim introduced Senator Kaine and Center Chairman Charles Boyd introduced Senator Roberts. After brief speeches by the honorees, General Michael V. Hayden (ret.), former Director of the National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Agency, presented the award to Senator Roberts and Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) presented Senator Kaine with his award. The presenters of the awards expressed their admiration for both legislators’ commitment to bipartisanship and a pragmatic vision of the national interest. Center Executive Director Paul Saunders served as master of ceremonies.
