In Memoriam: Robert Leiken

Robert Leiken was an impressive scholar and a wonderful colleague whom all of us at the Center for the National Interest will miss deeply. He was a rare original thinker who based his conclusions on a wealth of research that forced others—even others with very different perspectives—to take his views seriously. He was also a profoundly versatile intellectual with interests and expertise across a wide range of issues. In recent years, Bob was among the first to warn of the dangers of Islamist extremism in Europe, particularly among second-generation immigrants, and understood this danger to Western societies much earlier than most. We are proud to have been associated with him for many years and extend our thoughts and prayers to his family at this most difficult time.
