Russia and the New Total War
In addition to the immense loss of life and destruction in Ukraine, Russia’s 2022 invasion has forced a reexamination of 21st-century warfare, including its weapons and tactics as well as other tools, such as disinformation.
In his new book The New Total War, Dr. Robert (“Bob”) Seely intertwines hard-hitting analysis of Russia’s conduct with personal stories from Ukraine’s front lines. He is perhaps uniquely capable to pursue this textured approach as a former foreign correspondent who later served as a British soldier in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and the war on ISIS, and subsequently earned a Ph.D. from King’s College London.
On November 20, the Center for the National Interest hosted Dr. Seely for a discussion of his new book, moderated by Center president Paul Saunders.
