On July 13, the Center for the National Interest hosted Vitaly Naumkin, Director of the Institute for Oriental Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences and one of Russia’s top experts on the Middle East, and Paul Pillar, a Contributing Editor of The National Interest magazine and a former National Intelligence Officer for the Near East and South Asia and a career intelligence and terrorism analyst. The pair discussed the Syrian Civil War, the threat of ISIL, and the U.S. and Russian perspectives on the crisis. Center Executive Director Paul Saunders moderated.
