The First DOD Audit Report

On January 9, the Center hosted a discussion with Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller)/Chief Financial Officer Mr. David Norquist, who is currently performing the duties of the Deputy Secretary of Defense. Center for the National Interest Vice Chairman and former Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) Dr. Dov Zakheim moderated.

Mr. Norquist discussed the recent completion of the first department-wide audit in Pentagon history, which due to the size of the organization, is likely the largest audit ever undertaken. The audit assesses the Department’s financial records, identifies fraud or errors, and facilitates more effective oversight. Mr. Norquist detailed how the audit supports the US National Defense Strategy by enabling greater accountability, transparency and reform at the Department of Defense.
