Upcoming Elections in Israel
On March 18, the Center hosted a discussion on the upcoming elections in Israel and potential takeaways from their results with Professor Shai Feldman, Director of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University. Geoffrey Kemp, Senior Director of Regional Security at the Center for the National Interest, moderated.
Set for early April, the Israeli election will decide on members of the country’s twenty-first Knesset, laying the groundwork for the next few years. The country will take to the polls amid the controversy over Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent indictment on charges of bribery, fraud, and corruption, his decision to align with the controversial Jewish Power party, and an unexpected challenge from former Army General Benny Gantz. The outcome will have great impact for American policy in the Middle East, including hopes of peace between Israel and Palestine.
