On September 13, the Center for the National Interest hosted a panel discussion entitled “Trump’s New Afghanistan Policy.” Speakers included Gen. John Allen (USMC, Ret.), former commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan and Chair, Security and Strategy, and Distinguished Fellow in Residence at the Brookings Institution; James Dobbins,  a former Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Senior Fellow and Distinguished Chair in Diplomacy and Security at the RAND Corporation, and Thomas Graham, a former National Security Council Senior Director for Russia. Amb. Zalmay Khalilzad, a member of the Center’s Board and a former Ambassador to the United Nations, Afghanistan, and Iraq, moderated.
